WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2023

‘CHIGURU’

Forests play the most important role in maintaining nature’s harmony. Each country should try to protect its remaining forests and plant as many trees as possible. Individually, we should each make a vow to plant one tree a month so that in a year, each person would plant 12 trees” – Mata Amritanandamayi Devi.

The Environment Day celebration began in a very auspicious manner following the tradition of Amrita Vidyalayam with the lamp lightening ceremony. Amidst the chanting of dhyana shloka, the lamp was lit by the school principal, Mrs. Chethana J.

Sathvik of Class 9 welcomed the gathering by rendering Sanskrit shlokas glorifying Mother Earth. Shreyas of Class X administered the pledge to protect the environment and to distribute saplings on birthdays instead of chocolates. Ganna of Class 5 gave a Kannada speech which stressed creating awareness to preserve our planet and avoiding the use of plastic. An awareness was created about the need to save trees through a Hindi skit, ‘Ped Bachoo’. Students of Class 7 gave a dance performance glorifying nature and Mother Earth. The NCC students performed a street play on the theme ‘Beat plastic pollution’.

Under the C20 campaign headed by our beloved Sadguru Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, ‘Seed Ball Activity’ speech was delivered by Smt Madhura Meenakshi. The special guest for the program, Mr. Abhinash, representative of student’s development from RV College Bengaluru shared inputs on Amma’s vision of seeds of hope.

Saplings and seed ball were sown by the school principal and students of various grades. Tulsi saplings were gifted to UKG students as part of Environment Day. The program concluded with vote of thanks by Pranathi of Class 6.  Sadguru Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi’s vision of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – one earth, one family, one future reverberated around the entire campus of Amrita Vidyalayam.

The students participated in various competitions with great zeal and enthusiasm to mark World Environment Day. Students of the nursery section participated with excitement in the colouring activity. Grades 1 and 2 brought a vibrant atmosphere through their drawings. Grades 3 and 4 created colourful collages. Grades 5 and 6 spoke on the importance of the environment and the need to protect it. Grades 7 and 8 participated in essay writing. Grades 9 and 10 created innovative designs through pencil shading and collage. The main aim of the event was to increase awareness among students about the importance of the environment and the need to protect it.

We thank our school correspondent Bri Aradhanamrita Chaitanyaji for her wholehearted support and encouragement. All in all, the day was a great success and has certainly made a difference in the way we view our environment.
